New kitten and computer desk?

I am getting a new kitten in 3 weeks. I also have a one year old pom that is very hyper so in order to not scare the new kitten when he first gets home I'm going to put him in my spare room that also has my computer in it. I am worried that he is going to chew or pull on the cord and hurt himself or the computer. What should I do to prevent this or will he even be interested in the cords? If I put him anywhere else my pom is going to bombard him but I don't want anything to happen to him or my computer. What should I do?
