Question about heart defects?

I am male and 17 born with a ASD and a VSD and I have VCFS and ASD/aspurgers. I would like to know does having a surgery at this age when I am born cause me to become mentally retarded? Because I had open heart surgery then and I would like to know if it cases any problems. Another thing I would like to know les VCFS shorten life expectancy because I would like to know.
